Assertiveness Skills training

Helping people say what they need to say, confidently and respectfully, without becoming passive or aggressive.

Finding the assertive middle ground

Assertiveness sits between two extremes. It means saying what you need clearly and respectfully, while respecting other people's right to do the same.

Select a stage to explore it.
  1. PassiveStaying quiet to avoid tension. Feels safe, but leads to resentment and overload.
  2. AssertiveClear, honest and respectful. Your view is heard and so is theirs.
  3. AggressivePushing your view at others' expense. Gets results short-term, damages trust.

Overview

Assertiveness is often misunderstood as being forceful. In fact it's the balance between two common extremes: staying quiet to avoid tension, and pushing too hard. Assertive people state their views and needs clearly while respecting other people's.

This course helps participants understand their natural style, practise assertive language and handle the situations they find hardest: saying no, disagreeing with someone senior, or standing their ground under pressure.

No. It's equally useful for people who come across as too forceful, and for managers who need to be firm but fair.

Do you deliver assertiveness training across Wales?
